The area is a paradise for walkers too. We are half a mile from the St Cuthbert's Way, which runs the 62 miles (100km) from Melrose to Lindisfarne. We are close to the Pennine Way, and are in the foothills to the Cheviots.
Cuddy's Croft is new for 2007. Set in the trees to the side of Spylaw, it looks north to Hazelrigg, and across to the crags at Bowden Doors.
The cottage is on two levels, and has one bedroom with a double bed (which can be made into twin beds on request), from which you can enjoy the wonderful view shown in the lower photo on the right. The bathroom, with bath and shower, and the kitchen/diner are on the ground floor. The kitchen is very well equipped, including dishwasher, fridge /freezer, washer/dryer, microwave oven and induction hob.
The living room and the bedroom are upstairs; the living room has DVD/TV and CD player. Outside, Cuddy's Croft has a sheltered garden area in the trees, and has its own parking space adjacent to the entrance.

Constructed circa 1870 the Lodge forms part of the original Dissington Estate and is within the listed curtilage of the Hall. The Lodge has recently been refurbished with an emphasis on maintaining the authentic character of the Lodge, concentrating on quality and simplicity. Extensive use is made of natural stone and ceramic tiling with furnishings being of shaker style in hardwoods. The cosy living room is set off with a dressed stone Inglenook fireplace and cast iron log burner.
The Lodge consists of a good-sized living room containing a sofa bed and two armchairs, dining table with chairs, coffee table and sideboard (but no television). There is a spacious bedroom with double bed, dressing table, bedside table and hanging rail. The shower room is equipped with W.C., hand basin and high-pressure power shower. In the kitchen there is a range of fitted kitchen units with beech worktops and Belfast sink, cooker, hob and fridge. The kitchen is also equipped with a kettle, toaster and all crockery, cutlery and utensils to cater for four. Externally The Lodge is set in a small, secluded cottage garden. To the South-facing front elevation is a patio overlooking a glade and private woodland. The lodge is designed and equipped for short stays for up to four people and is equipped accordingly. Although the accommodation is all on one level there are steps within the layout of the property therefore we regret that it is not suitable for the infirm or for wheel chair users. The living room features original exposed oak beams and a coal/ log burning cast-iron stove on a deep hearth, and is a good size, containing two sofas, a bookshelf and a television, video, DVD, freeview box, and a CD player. The kitchen is open to the living room, equipped with a cooker, fridge-freezer, microwave, and washing machine. The bathroom is also on the ground floor, with bath, shower, W.C. and basin.
Upstairs there are two roomy bedrooms with great views over the valley. To the left there is a twin room; to the right is a large double bedroom. This room has an original open fireplace, which can be used.
Outside Hilltop Cottage has a large garden on three levels with lawns and mature fruit trees. The cottage is near Northumberland's Heritage coastline, Holy Island, Cheviot Hills, St Cuthbert’s Way and a short drive from Berwick on Tweed and the Scottish borders. Alnwick Castle where Harry Potter was filmed and the nearby Alnwick Gardens are a popular day trip.

The nearest neighbour is over half a mile away, and there is a paddock where the kids can play safely as well as a walled garden which provides a safe haven for younger children.
The front door opens into the hallway, with stairs up to the two upstairs bedrooms, and doorway to the fully equipped kitchen, which includes washer, drier, microwave, toaster etc. Past the kitchen is the living room, with TV, video, CD radio, and a very effective log burning stove. The living room has a patio door into the walled garden, and wonderful views down the hill. Also downstairs is one of the three bedrooms - a double - and the bathroom, which has a bath with an electric shower over. Upstairs there is a triple bedroom and a double, which has great views over the valley. Outside, the fully enclosed garden is a real sun trap, with garden furniture and a barbeque.
