The high-ceilinged, beamed living room is spacious, light and homely with a large wood burning stove and ample seating. The floors are covered with thick oak floor boards and these extend through into the bedroom giving the whole property a warm and welcoming feel. The Piggery is centrally heated.
A flat screen TV/DVD player is provided just in case you would prefer an evening in and meals can be enjoyed around a huge dining table for ten!
The Piggery has its own garden with seasonal produce; those staying can feel free to pick and cook a variety of vegetables.
Two bicycles are available to hire for those who wish to do so.
The delightful bedroom is light and airy, furnished with a super-king double bed, which can be made into two single beds if required.There is even a digital radio.
The bedroon leads into a luxury bathroom with a beautiful roll-top bath . Just the thing for a pampering long soak.Bed linen is provided but not towels.
The modern kitchen is fully equipped with electric hob, fan assisted oven, microwave, fridge, dishwasher and washing machine.
A 'welcome pack' can be requested before your stay, which would include local produce and items for a first breakfast.
The cottage is on one level, with two steps leading to the bathroom and kitchen.The property has its own parking space and we do welcome well behaved dogs.
Horses, dogs, cats, chickens and geese also live on the farm , and so far, haven't eaten anyone!
The Piggery is close to: Whittington Castle, Chirk Castle, Erdigg Hall and Powys Castle (National Trust Properties).
Llangollen and Pontcysyllte aqueducts built by Thomas Telford. If you fancy hiring a canal boat for the day, we are minutes away from the Maestermyn Marina, which would enable you to experience the aqueducts first hand!
Ellesmere and Oswestry, both historic border towns, with weekly markets and shops.
For the energetic and adventurous; Snowdonia National Park is one hour away by car.
Just a short 30 minute drive will take you into Shrewsbury, a medieval County Town with boutiques, fine restaurants and theatres.
The Roman city of Chester is a 45 minute drive away for serious shoppers, race-goers and lovers of fine food.
Great local pubs and eating houses abound in the area. All in all, The Piggrey is a fantastic place to visit either for a short break or a longer relaxing holiday away from it all.

The Mere at Ellesmere is the largest and most spectacular of the nine glacial meres. A beautiful lake with formal Victorian gardens and historic parkland on the edge of the medieval market town.
Other meres close by are Colemere, Blakemere and Whitemere. Course fishing is avaiable on some of these meres. Five Golf clubs are within easy reach.
Explore the canals by visiting the marina and wharf, walk along the tow paths or take a trip on a narrowboat.
There are many places to walk and cycle using the route maps provided in the cottage. A newly refurbished restaurant and visitor centre is located at The Mere. In the park there is a childrens' playground. There are boat trips on the lake and a bird hide for those who like bird watching.
Ellesmere Town has many independent shops, pubs and cafes along with take away outlets and a famous delicatessen for those who wish to cater in the cottage.
For main food shopping there is a Tesco, a Co-op and a Spar. In Oswestry, which is around 12 miles away, there is a Sainsburys, a M&S Simply Food and a Morrisons.
The town of Oswestry is named after King Oswald of Northumbria, who died in AD641. He was nailed to a tree - hence the name "Oswald's Tree". The town has many places to visit including the Heritage and Exhibition Centre, the Bailey and the Hill Fort. There are restaurants, pubs and cafes and a lovely park with childrens' playground and mini golf. On Wednesdays and Saturdays there is a street market and the Market Hall is well worth a visit.
The medieval town of Shrewsbury and the ancient city of Chester are only 40 minutes away. In Shrewsbury, visit the famous Quarry gardens and the river Severn also, Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery at Rowley's House which is a timber-framed building built as a merchant's warehouse in the 16th or early 17th Century. In Chester, visit the roman ruins, the magnificent cathedral, the famous shopping 'Rows' and take a walk around the City walls. Chester Zoo with its beautiful gardens and overhead railway is a popular day out.
Or you could travel further afield to the spectacular mountains, beaches and castles of North Wales or visit the world heritage site of Ironbridge Gorge here in Shropshire. | | | |
